WEPRA's Mission

The Westfield Puerto Rican Association, Inc. (WEPRA) is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that advocates for the history, culture and education of the Puerto Rican and the Latin communities of Westfield, Massachusetts.

History

PR Flag Raising 2024 invite.png

Since our founding in 1994, we honor our elders who settled in Westfield from Puerto Rico in the mid 20th century. We share our heritage with our children.  WEPRA honors the diverse Latin/Hispanic heritage in our community.  This fall, we will hold a flag of Puerto Rico ceremony in front of Westfield City Hall, followed by a community celebration at the YMCA of Greater Westfield with traditional food and music.

The date for this event is Sunday, October 6th at 1 PM. All are welcome!

Culture

WEPRA's culture celebration is a fusion of our Hispanic/Latin and Westfield roots.  This fall we delight in presenting "The Puerto Rican Experience" art exhibit featuring artwork by four contemporary (4) Puerto Rican artists.  Two are local artists and two are Puerto Rico Island artists. The exhibit is hosted by the Westfield On Weekends (WOW) Creative Arts Center to celebrate National Heritage Hispanic Month. WEPRA joins in this collaboration by curating the artwork of the PR Island artists.  The exhibit will be held at the W.O.W Gallery.

Gallery located at 105 Elm Street from September 16th  -  October 31st.  Proceeds from WEPRA's art exhibit will benefit the scholarship fund.

Education

WEPRA is an advocate for Education.  Our goal is to add more scholarships for Latino students in Westfield. With CSF Westfield Dollars for Scholars, we award a scholarship every year established by our organization, formerly known as WSAA.

The 2024 recipient of our scholarship is Angel Curbelo, a freshman at Westfield State University studying Music Education.  He’s a musician with the Madison Curbelo Band and upon graduation will teach a new generation of musicians.
